Jason Aldean Releases Provocative Music Video Criticizing Left-wing Unrest
The Music Video Visuals
In the music video, Aldean and his band are seen performing the song, interspersed with scenes of left-leaning political unrest. These snapshots feature rioters hurling Molotov cocktails, disrespecting law enforcement officers, and igniting fires. Most of the footage appears to depict actual real-world events.
“Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk, carjack an elderly lady at a traffic signal. Point a gun at a liquor store owner. You find it cool? Well, continue to act foolishly if you please,” goes the song. “Disrespect a cop, spit in his face. Trample on the flag and set it ablaze. Oh, you think you’re tough.”
The catchy refrain poses a challenge: “Try that in a small town. See how far you’d get down the road.”
The Message on Gun Control Policies
Aldean’s “Try That In A Small Town” also takes aim at left-wing gun control strategies. He sings, “I’ve got a gun that my granddad passed down to me. They say one day they’re going to collect them.”
The video gradually transitions to more serene depictions, featuring the American flag, the phrase “God bless America,” and instances of small-town community members assisting one another.
An Ending with A Touch of Humanity
It concludes with an uplifting scene where farmers aid a physically challenged colleague struggling with crop growth. A broadcaster narrates, “A friend is in need, and they’ve come to help. It’s the embodiment of this community and many farming communities. When someone needs help, they get it.”
Aldean’s Previous Political Stances
This is not the first time Aldean has ventured into political themes. He has consistently advocated for parental rights in education and criticized what he views as the “woke” and “fake news” media.
In late 2021, Aldean and his wife, Brittany Aldean, released a Halloween sketch mocking mainstream media. The couple dressed as characters from Will Ferrell’s Anchorman and quipped lines like, “We are 80% unbiased 100% of the time.”
Aldean’s Notable Achievements
At 46, Aldean ranks among the most successful commercial country artists ever. An impressive 27 of his 38 singles have topped either the Hot Country Songs or Country Airplay charts. His 2012 album, Night Train, boasts a double-platinum certification. Three additional albums have earned platinum status, and he has also received five Grammy nominations.
