Rosie O’Donnell Moves to Ireland
Rosie O’Donnell, who once said she might leave the U.S. if Donald Trump became president, has followed through. In a TikTok video, she confirmed that she and her 12-year-old daughter Dakota moved to Ireland on January 15.
Life Abroad
O’Donnell shared that settling in has been a positive experience: “It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say. The people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming. And I’m very grateful.” Now 62, she is seeking Irish citizenship, as her grandparents were from Ireland.
Why She Left
Rosie explained that her decision was driven by the political climate in the U.S. during Trump’s presidency. “It was both personally challenging and heartbreaking,” she said. She hopes to return one day but only “when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America.”
A New Chapter
Though she enjoys Dublin and finds the locals “very friendly,” O’Donnell misses her older children, friends, and life back in the U.S. She reflected, “I was never someone who thought I would move to another country… that’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child. And here we are.”
She ended her video with a hopeful message: “I am hoping that we can turn things around, counting on you, all of you, to do what’s right. And I think deep down inside, we all know what that is.”
