Teen Fatally Stabbed at Track Meet
Seventeen-year-old Austin Metcalf died after being stabbed in the heart during a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, on April 2. His younger brother, Hunter, witnessed the tragedy. Police said they responded around 10 a.m. and, despite CPR and other life-saving efforts, “the (17)-year-old victim died.”
Suspect Released, Faces Graduation Controversy
Eighteen-year-old Karmelo Anthony was arrested and charged in connection to the stabbing, which reportedly followed a fight in the stands. He was released on house arrest. Austin’s father, Jeffrey Metcalf, has filed a formal complaint with Centennial High School for allowing Anthony to receive his diploma, fearing it rewards someone accused of murder.
School Response and Legal Dispute
Though Anthony remains under house arrest, the Frisco Independent School District does not expect him to attend the graduation ceremony. His spokesperson, Dominique Alexander, said, “We are in arrangements of doing an early graduation. They have agreed to allow him to graduate. They were literally trying to expel him – period.”
Families Dispute Circumstances
Jeffrey Metcalf attended a press conference hosted by Anthony’s family, who insist their son acted in self-defense. Anthony’s mother, Kala Hayes, claimed that public backlash had “put my family in danger,” adding, “lies and false accusations… have been said about us.”
