Phil Robertson, ‘Duck Dynasty’ Patriarch, Dies at 79
Phil Robertson, the bearded figurehead of Duck Dynasty and founder of Duck Commander, has died at age 79 after battling Alzheimer’s disease. His family announced his passing on May 25, 2025, saying in a statement:
“We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord… We will carry on his legacy of loving God and others.”
Family Tributes Reflect Faith and Legacy
Phil’s family shared emotional tributes. His son Jase said, “My dad has gone to be with the Lord today! He will be missed but we know he is in good hands… God is very good! We will see him again!”
Granddaughter Sadie Robertson Huff recalled, “One of the last things he said to me was ‘full strength ahead!’ Amen! Now he is experiencing it in the fullness.” Other relatives, including Will and Korie Robertson, also honored his memory online.
From Duck Calls to Reality TV Icon
Originally a hunting gear entrepreneur, Phil invented the Duck Commander call in 1972. But national fame came in 2012 with Duck Dynasty, which featured his Louisiana family, outdoor lifestyle, and Christian values. The show became a cultural phenomenon, making the Robertsons household names.
Fame, Controversy, and Cultural Impact
Phil’s outspoken views, especially during a 2013 GQ interview about homosexuality and sin, drew backlash and briefly got him suspended. Still, many admired his commitment to faith. Even after Duck Dynasty ended in 2017, Phil remained active through books, podcasts, and speaking tours. A reboot, Duck Dynasty: The Revival, is set to premiere June 1, 2025.
Fans now mourn a man who lived boldly. As Sadie remembered: “Full strength ahead.”
