Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty Dies at 79
Phil Robertson, patriarch of the Duck Dynasty family, has died at 79 after battling Alzheimer’s disease. The news broke on May 25, 2025, with his family announcing it online.
“We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather… is now with the Lord,” the family shared on Instagram. Phil was remembered for his deep Christian faith, outspoken views, and love for the outdoors.
Family Tributes
His children and grandchildren paid tribute to his life and faith. Son Jase Robertson wrote, “My dad has gone to be with the Lord today… we know he is in good hands.” Granddaughter Sadie Robertson Huff recalled his last words to her: “Full strength ahead!” Grandson Will added, “I’m thankful to know he’s sitting in his recliner talking to Jesus.”
Daughter-in-law Korie Robertson thanked supporters, saying his “bold faith” and commitment to sharing the gospel touched countless lives.
Health Struggles
Phil’s diagnosis became public in late 2024, when Jase revealed on the family’s podcast that Phil had Alzheimer’s and a likely blood disease. “It’s causing problems with his entire body,” Jase said. Despite his condition, Phil remained a source of strength for his family.
A Lasting Legacy
Phil founded Duck Commander in 1972 and became a reality TV star in 2012 with Duck Dynasty, which ran for 11 seasons. He stirred controversy in 2013 with remarks in a GQ interview, leading to a brief suspension.
Though divisive, Phil’s unapologetic beliefs earned him a loyal following. A Duck Dynasty reboot, The Revival, was set for June 1, 2025, but it’s unclear how his death may affect it.
“He will be missed,” fans wrote. “But his legacy lives on.”
