Omar Faces Criticism Over Past Comments
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) is under fire after a 2018 video resurfaced in which she said white men are responsible for most fatalities in the U.S. and should be monitored for radicalization. “If fear was the driving force of policies to keep America safe, then we should be profiling, monitoring, and creating policies to fight the radicalization of white men,” she said. Her comments drew sharp criticism from both a longtime Democratic strategist and a sitting Democratic lawmaker.
Carville: Progressives Are Hurting the Party
James Carville, a veteran Democratic strategist, blasted Omar and other progressives for alienating voters. “Ilhan Omar claims that white males are responsible for more deaths than anyone else in the nation… Why provoke one-third of the voting population?” he asked. Carville warned that progressive rhetoric is damaging to the Democratic Party and suggested they “should consider pursuing their own path.”
Khanna: Embrace Patriotism
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) echoed the criticism, urging Democrats to celebrate America’s values. “My disagreement is not merely political; it is fundamentally substantive. This nation is remarkable, compassionate, and honorable,” he said. Reflecting on his family’s immigration, Khanna emphasized the U.S. as a land of unique opportunity and urged Democrats to declare in every speech, “America is the greatest nation globally. It is the most inclusive country in the world. It is the least prejudiced nation, and our goal is to improve it further.”
Omar Defends Herself
In response, Omar cited an Anti-Defamation League report claiming “white supremacists accounted for 78 percent of extremist-related homicides.” She defended her old remarks as fact-based and also criticized ongoing support for Israel, saying, “You ought to research the true definition of ‘genocidal’ while you are actively endorsing a genocide occurring in Gaza.”
