A Tragic Loss for the Today Show Family
The Today show team is mourning the death of Uche Ojeh, husband of longtime co-host Sheinelle Jones, who passed away at 45 after battling glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. The news was shared during the May 23 broadcast with “profound sadness,” as co-host Savannah Guthrie said, “There are no words for the pain that we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children.”
Remembering Uche Ojeh
Ojeh, full name Uchechukwuka Adenola Ojeh, was more than just Sheinelle’s husband—he was a devoted father and a cherished presence in the lives of many. “He loved those kids more than anything else in this world,” said Craig Melvin, holding back tears. “He was that dad that was on the sideline of every soccer game. He was at all of the concerts and the recitals.”
A Love Story and Life Together
Uche and Sheinelle met when she was a freshman at Northwestern University. After eight years of long-distance dating, they married in 2007 and raised three children—15-year-old Kayin and 12-year-old twins Clara and Uche. Known for his quiet strength and joy, Guthrie said, “He was her perfect match… Uche was the kind of person who brought life, warmth, and joy to every room.”
Sheinelle’s Quiet Tribute
Sheinelle, who had been absent from Today since December to care for Uche, broke her silence by posting the show’s tribute with a simple message: “Thank you, for all of your love and support. ❤️” The Today family continues to rally around her during this difficult time.
