Biden Diagnosed with Advanced Prostate Cancer
Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, his office confirmed Sunday. The diagnosis was made after Biden experienced urinary symptoms and underwent testing. Doctors found a small nodule and graded the cancer with a Gleason score of 9, indicating a high-grade tumor. The cancer is hormone-sensitive, which allows for some effective treatment options.
Biden Speaks Out
At 82, Biden shared a message of strength on social media, writing: “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.” His health has been under scrutiny since leaving office in January and stepping back from a re-election bid after a poor debate performance last year.
Support from All Sides
Biden’s diagnosis prompted support from across the political spectrum. Donald Trump stated, “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis… we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.” Vice President Kamala Harris expressed, “Joe is a fighter… We are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery.” Rep. Ro Khanna added, “He and Jill have always been fighters and I am confident they will meet this challenge with grit and grace.”
A Long-Standing Fight Against Cancer
Biden has long been involved in cancer advocacy, especially after losing his son Beau to brain cancer in 2015. This led to his “Cancer Moonshot” initiative, aimed at advancing research and treatment. Prostate cancer is common among older men, and outcomes vary widely. The Biden family is currently working with doctors to determine next steps, with updates expected soon.
